The recent reform of the immigration law has profoundly reshaped the mechanisms of the “Talent Passport” program. Although she formally dropped the term “passport” to avoid confusion, she also extensively overhauled the program as a whole. Here are the details.

What you need to know

  • modification of the name of the “talent passport” residence permit to the “talent” residence permit in order to limit the confusion created by the use of the word “passport”

  • This residence permit is valid for a maximum period of 4 years, renewable.

  • The request for the “qualified employee talent passport” must be submitted within three months of moving to France or made online from abroad.

How to obtain the residence card

The talent passport residence card – qualified employee – exercise of a salaried activity authorizes you to stay in France. It authorizes you to work.

1st step: Check if you meet the conditions


You can obtain a talent passport card – qualified employee – exercise of a salaried activity if you meet the following 2 conditions:

  • You have obtained in France a Specialized Master’s / Master of Science diploma (labeled by the conference of the Grandes Ecoles) or at least equivalent to the master’s degree: DEA, DESS, engineering diploma, political studies institute diploma, higher diploma of accounting and management, chartered accountant diploma, state veterinary diplomas, doctor of medicine, dental surgery, pharmacy
  • You have an employment contract of more than 3 months which provides for gross annual remuneration greater than or equal to € 42,406

2nd Step: Check the steps to be taken
The procedures differ depending on whether you live abroad or in France.

 

If you live abroad:

You must submit your visa application to the French consular authorities in your country of residence.

If you live in France:

You must submit your request online, at the earliest 4 months and at the latest 2 months before the end of validity of your residence document (visa, VLS-TS or title).

3rd step: Prepare the documents to provide

  • Long-stay visa or valid residence permit
  • Passport (pages concerning civil status, validity dates, stamps
  • Proof of address
  • 3 photos
  • Employer certificate
  • diplomas

4th step: Take the procedure on the internet

You must submit your request online, at the earliest 4 months and at the latest 2 months before the end of validity of your residence document (visa, VLS-TS or title).

5th step: Information from the prefecture about the validation of the residence permit

The prefecture confirms the availability of your residence permit and the amount of the tax.

6th step: Buy the tax stamp

If you are granted a residence permit, you must pay €225

7th step: Handing over the residence permit once it is available

The card is given to you by the prefecture or sub-prefecture of your home.
